Jerzy Stankiewicz

Musicologist, holder of honorary doctorates from the  Academies of Music in Lviv and Kiev. He discovered the figure of Konstanty Regamey while researching  the oeuvre of Frank Martin. His meeting with Professor Regamey and the later discovery in Kiev of Konstanty’s forgotten father led to many years of research in the libraries and archives of Ukraine, Russia, and Switzerland, which bore fruit in the form of the first biography of Konstanty Kazimierz Regamey Sr (published  in 2004), as well as two books of recently unearthed  songs by K. Regamey Jr  (2014, 2019). Stankiewicz organised the conference entitled The Phenomenon of Konstanty Regamey’s Personality (Cracow 2007), and delivered numerous papers on the Regamey family in Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine, and Switzerland (Bern  2006, Zurich 2008), as well as publishing more than  a dozen articles in, among others, ‘Revue Musicale  Suisse’. In 1991 he organised the Frank Martin Festival in Cracow, which was followed by the Polish  premieres of F. Martin’s oratorio Le Vin Herbé, Jean  Balissat’s Violin Concerto, and K. Regamey’s cantata  Visions, which Prof. J. Balissat helped the composer to  notate after his paralysis (five performances in Poland  and Ukraine, 2007). Jerzy Stankiewicz also inspired  the Polish premiere of the double concerto Lila and  the performance of K. Regamey’s Variations sur un  thème de Bartók  at the 32nd International Festival of  Krakow Composers in 2020.
