[...] In my own works I do not allow myself to yield to any limiting suggestions. I apply all the previously known tricks on a par with means that I believe to be my own invention. […] The decision to admit all possible musical means does not, or at least need not, entail eclecticism at all. A new ‘synthetic’ musical language is certainly not meant as a kind of non-category where everything that comes your way is simply lumped together. It must be, like any other language, an organic entity, and its components must mutually depend on one another, regardless of their provenance.
